Labor Day does not print a daily coupon
Last updated:
Saturday’s lending note is a calendar note, not a new lock. Labor Day is Monday, September 7. Mortgage News Daily’s daily index is a weekday survey. There is no official Saturday print on this site, and there will not be a Monday holiday print. The last official daily 30-year cited here is still 6.81% as of August 28. This desk will not invent Friday afternoon’s coupon if it was not sourced here.
What is the last official coupon through a holiday weekend?
Keep 6.81% as the last cited official daily 30-year until a newer dated index is sourced, most likely Tuesday after the holiday. The 15-year context from that same August 28 print is 6.35%. Freddie Mac’s weekly 30-year remains 6.66% as of August 27. None of those figures is a lock.
Friday’s Employment Situation was on the calendar. This site has not cited August payrolls, the unemployment rate, or hourly earnings. The last official monthly payrolls figure named here is still July, down 23,000. A weekend rumor about that print is not a mortgage index.
What does a Saturday lock actually buy?
A weekend lock, if a lender will write one, buys a rate and points on a named file for a stated period. It does not buy Tuesday’s survey. It does not buy a Labor Day coupon that will not exist. Longer coverage still costs more in rate or points, as Thursday’s note said. The holiday just stretches the calendar those lock days have to cover.
Use the payment calculator to sketch principal and interest at 6.81%, then add tax and insurance. The result is not an approval. This publication does not originate loans or take applications.
